Occasionally, Alphonso mangoes may develop a natural physiological condition called spongy tissue. This internal issue causes parts of the pulp near the seed to appear pale yellow or white, spongy, and sometimes air-filled. These sections may also have a slightly off taste. It’s important to note that mangoes affected by spongy tissue look perfectly normal from the outside, and the issue becomes visible only once the fruit is cut open.

Is It Safe to Eat Mangoes with Spongy Tissue?
Yes, mangoes with spongy tissue are generally safe to consume. While the affected areas may not have the expected sweetness or texture, the rest of the mango is usually perfectly edible and delicious.
